Corn And Soybean Response To Wastewater-Recycled Phosphorus Fertilizers, Shane Ylagan

Crop, Soil and Environmental Sciences Undergraduate Honors Theses

81818app手机版下载The ability to recycle phosphorus (P) from wastewaters could provide a sustainable, continuous source of P that might also help protect surface water quality from P enrichment. The mineral struvite (MgNH4PO4·6H2O) is an understudied material that can be created from Pcontaining wastewater and has been shown to have agricultural fertilizer value. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of electrochemically precipitated struvite (ECST), chemically precipitated struvite (Crystal Green; CG), diammonium phosphate (DAP), monoammonium phosphate (MAP), rock phosphate (RP), and triple super phosphate (TSP) on corn (Zea mays) and soybean (Glycine max) response in a 79-day greenhouse ...

81818app手机版下载Organic light emitting devices (OLEDs), especially in a screen display format, present unique and interesting substrates for Laser Desorption/Ionization - Mass Spectrometry Imaging (LDI-MSI) analysis. These devices contain many compounds that inherently absorb light energy and do not require an additional matrix to induce desorption and ionization. OLED screens have lateral features with dimensions that are tens of microns in magnitude and depth features that are tens to hundreds of nanometers thick. Monitoring the chemical composition of these features is essential, as contamination and degradation can impact device lifetime. This work demonstrates the capability of LDI-MSI to obtain lateral and ...

Effects Of Oxidative Modifications On The Structure And Non-Canonical Functions Of Cytochrome C Studied By Mass Spectrometry, Victor Yin 2020 The University of Western Ontario

Effects Of Oxidative Modifications On The Structure And Non-Canonical Functions Of Cytochrome C Studied By Mass Spectrometry, Victor Yin

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

The peroxidase activity of the mitochondrial protein cytochrome c (cyt c) plays a critical role in triggering programmed cell death, or apoptosis. However, the native structure of cyt c should render this activity impossible due to the lack of open iron coordination sites at its heme cofactor. Despite its key biological importance, the molecular mechanisms underlying this structure-function mismatch remain enigmatic. The work detailed in this dissertation fills this knowledge gap by using mass spectrometry (MS) to decipher the central role that protein oxidative modifications and their associated structural changes play in activating the peroxidase function of cyt c.

Integration And Optimization Of A 3d Printed Continuous Flow Reactor In An Inorganic Complexation Reaction, Calli Burnell 2020 State University of New York College at Brockport

Integration And Optimization Of A 3d Printed Continuous Flow Reactor In An Inorganic Complexation Reaction, Calli Burnell

Senior Honors Theses

Current inorganic lab setups do not allow students to use time in lab efficiently and does not allow students to do repeat runs of reactions due to time and material restraints. By implementing a 3D printed continuous flow reactor into the experiment students would be able to redo experiments in class without creating large amounts of waste, all while using a system that was created on campus at a reasonable price. It was found that a mixing chamber with an isobaric design created an environment that allowed complete mixing before reaching a point at which measurements are taken.

The Influence Of The Cellular Environment On Z-Dna Formation, Amanda Hange 2020 State University of New York College at Brockport 81818app手机版下载

The Influence Of The Cellular Environment On Z-Dna Formation, Amanda Hange

Senior Honors Theses

In the cell, chemically diverse solutes known as osmolytes accumulate in response to environmental stresses. To add to the understanding of how the environment inside a cell affects nucleic acid folding and function, we investigated the influence of cosolutes on the transition from B-DNA to Z-DNA in model DNA duplexes. Distinct from the familiar right-handed BDNA helical conformation, Z-DNA is a left-handed double helical structure with its phosphodiester backbone arranged in a zig-zag pattern that is unique to Z-DNA. Moreover, due to the correlation between Z-DNA formation potential and regions of active transcription, ZDNA is believed to serve a vital ...

Analysis Of Secondary Metabolites Biosynthesized By Pathogenic And Symbiotic Fungi Using High-Resolution Tandem Lc-Ms And Spectral Molecular Networking, Natasha Desrochers

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

Fungi from Canadian crops affect many aspects of agriculture. For example, ginseng root rot caused by Ilyonectria spp. is a major issue for farmers. Ilyonectria spp. make few reported natural products and it is not known if those products are unique to virulent species. PCA and molecular networking were applied to HRMS data to establish a distinct metabolomic profile of root rot pathogens, characterized by antifungal resorcyclic acid lactones (RALs). These likely protect Ilyonectria81818app手机版下载 from other soil pathogens, which gives it the opportunity to infect ginseng root.

Molecular networking was also applied to fungal endophytes from fruit crops to identify ...

Paradoxically a very broad diffraction background, named the Bell-Shaped-Component (BSC), has been established as a feature of graphene growth. Although the BSC has been present in the earlier literature it has been ignored. Recent diffraction studies as a function of electron energy have shown that the BSC is not related to scattering interference. The BSC is a very strong effect, but its origin is still unclear. Here, additional experiments are carried out as a function of temperature while monitoring changes in the intensity of different spots over the range that single-layer-graphene (SLG) grows. Quantitative fitting of the profiles shows that ...

81818app手机版下载Oxidative and nitrosative stress are widely recognized as critical factors in the pathogenesis and progression of Alzheimer disease (AD) and its earlier stage, amnestic mild cognitive impairment (MCI). A major source of free radicals that lead to oxidative and nitrosative damage is mitochondria. This review paper discusses oxidative and nitrosative stress and markers thereof in the brain, along with redox proteomics, which are techniques that have been pioneered in the Butterfield laboratory. Selected biological alterations in—and oxidative and nitrosative modifications of—mitochondria in AD and MCI and systems of relevance thereof also are presented. The review article concludes with ...

hnRNPA2 is a major component of mRNA transport granules in oligodendrocytes and neurons. However, the structural details of how hnRNPA2 binds the A2 recognition element (A2RE) and if this sequence stimulates granule formation by enhancing phase separation of hnRNPA2 has not yet been studied. Using solution NMR and biophysical studies, we find that each of the two individual RRMs retain the domain structure observed in complex with RNA but are not rigidly confined (i.e. they move independently) in solution in the absence of RNA. hnRNPA2 RRMs bind the minimal rA2RE11 weakly but at least, and most likely, two hnRNPA2 ...

Structural Investigation Of Bacilliredoxins: Enzymes Involved In Bacillithiol Redox Metabolism, Colin McHugh, Paul Cook 2020 Grand Valley State University

Structural Investigation Of Bacilliredoxins: Enzymes Involved In Bacillithiol Redox Metabolism, Colin Mchugh, Paul Cook

Student Summer Scholars Manuscripts

Bacillithiol is an important compound involved in intracellular redox homeostasis and fosfomycin resistance mechanisms of some Gram-positive bacterial pathogens. Cellular regeneration of active bacillithiol (BSH) from a disulfide (BSSB) or mixed disulfide state (BSS-Protein) involves the bacilliredoxin enzymes BrxA/B. An X-ray crystallographic structure of apo BrxA from Bacillus subtilis has been previously characterized, but no BrxB or BSSB-bound Brx structure currently exists. Here we present an X-ray crystallographic structure of BrxA from the pathogen Staphylococcus aureus with a bacillithiol disulfide (BSSB) bound in the active site. Elucidation of this structure will help researchers to understand how BSSB binds in ...

Detection Of Melamine Based On The Suppressed Anodic Response Of Uric Acid By A Au-Ag Nanoparticles Modified Glassy Carbon Electrode, Yu-Hui Peng, Tsunghsueh Wu, Yang-Wei Lin 2020 National Changhua University of Education, Taiwan 81818app手机版下载

Detection Of Melamine Based On The Suppressed Anodic Response Of Uric Acid By A Au-Ag Nanoparticles Modified Glassy Carbon Electrode, Yu-Hui Peng, Tsunghsueh Wu, Yang-Wei Lin

Journal of Food and Drug Analysis

81818app手机版下载We demonstrated a sensitive electrochemical method for the determination of non-electroactive melamine (Mel) using a modified glassy carbon electrode (GCE), with uric acid (UA) as the signal reporter. To increase the anodic response of UA, GCE was coated with Au–Ag nanoparticles and a Nafion thin film (Au–Ag/Nafion/GCE). The sensing mechanism was based on the competitive adsorption behavior of Mel on the Au–Ag/Nafion/GCE, which reduces the electroactive surface area of nanoparticles and thus hinders anodic response of UA. Under optimal conditions and the use of an analytical method of differential pulse voltammetry, this modified ...

Spatiotemporal Patterns Of Polychlorinated Dibenzo-P-Dioxins And Dibenzofurans And Dioxin-Like Polychlorinated Biphenyls In Foodstuffs In Air Quality Regions In Taiwan, Ching-Chang Lee, Wei-Hsiang Chang, Hsin-Tang Lin, Jung-Wei Chang

Journal of Food and Drug Analysis

High-fat food intake is the main source of dioxin-like compounds for humans, such as consumption of meat, dairy and eggs, and seafood products. Fruits, vegetables, and cereals have relatively low levels of dioxin-like compounds, but because of high consumption they also contribute to the food-borne intake. It is necessary to clarify dietary dioxin exposure affected by different food contamination levels and dietary habits among different geographic areas. We aimed to evaluate chronic dietary PCDD/Fs and DL-PCBs exposure in 725 individual foods in 14 categories in 6 Taiwan air quality regions (AQRs) and a total of 2,441 foods from ...

An Investigation Of Antenna, Ligand Side-Chain, And Metal Ion Effects On The Optical And Mri Properties Of Bimodal Lanthanide (Iii) Complexes, Marisa Poveda

Master's Theses

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a leading anatomical imaging modality for disease diagnosis. With the aid of Gd3+81818app手机版下载 based contrast agents, high resolution images of biological structures can be obtained. However, there is an increased need for contrast agents that are responsive to specific analytes and chemical environments. Paramagnetic Chemical Exchange Saturation Transfer (PARACEST) agents that utilize a paramagnetic lanthanide ion chelated with a ligand have shown great promise in this area. Lanthanide ions also possess luminescence properties that do not suffer from common limitations of conventional optical imaging agents such as autofluorescence and photobleaching. The projects described in ...

81818app手机版下载Down syndrome (DS) is the most common genetic cause of intellectual disability that is associated with an increased risk to develop early-onset Alzheimer-like dementia (AD). The brain neuropathological features include alteration of redox homeostasis, mitochondrial deficits, inflammation, accumulation of both amyloid beta-peptide oligomers and senile plaques, as well as aggregated hyperphosphorylated tau protein-containing neurofibrillary tangles, among others. It is worth mentioning that some of the triplicated genes encoded are likely to cause increased oxidative stress (OS) conditions that are also associated with reduced cellular responses. Published studies from our laboratories propose that increased oxidative damage occurs early in life in ...

Synthesis Of Interface-Driven Tunable Bandgap Metal Oxides, Boyce S. Chang, Andrew Martin, Brijith Thomas, Ang Li, Rick W. Dorn, Jinlong Gong, Aaron J. Rossini, Martin M. Thuo 2020 Iowa State University 81818app手机版下载

Synthesis Of Interface-Driven Tunable Bandgap Metal Oxides, Boyce S. Chang, Andrew Martin, Brijith Thomas, Ang Li, Rick W. Dorn, Jinlong Gong, Aaron J. Rossini, Martin M. Thuo

Chemistry Publications

Mixed bandgap and bandgap tunability in semiconductors is critical in expanding their use. Composition alterations through single-crystal epitaxial growth and the formation of multilayer tandem structures are often employed to achieve mixed bandgaps, albeit with limited tunability. Herein, self-assembled one-dimensional coordination polymers provide facile synthons and templates for graphitic C-doped mesoporous oxides, gC-β-Ga2O3 or gC-In2O3 via controlled oxidative ligand ablation. These materials have mixed bandgaps and colors, depending on amount of gC present. The carbon/oxide interface leads to induced gap states, hence, a stoichiometrically tunable band structure. Structurally, a multiscale porous network percolating throughout the material is realized. The ...
