Toward A Feminist Ethics Of Nonviolence [Toc], Timothy J. Huzar, Clare Woodford
Edited collection of original essays debating Adriana Cavarero’s feminist ethics of nonviolence. Including an original essay by Adriana Cavarero and responses from Judith Butler, Bonnie Honig, Olivia Guaraldo, Simona Forti, Christine Battersby, Lorenzo Bernini, Mark Devenney, Tim Huzar and Clare Woodford. Although inspired by Cavarero’s recent work on an ethical maternal posture of inclination the responses situate Cavarero’s argument in her wider corpus of nonviolence and uniqueness, that critiques and offers an alternative to the masculine symbolic of philosophy. This introduction endeavours to not only introduce Cavarero’s work, but to chart the journey of an increasingly ...

Understanding The Influence Of Childhood Experiences On The Development Of Female Sexual Perpetrators Against Underage Individuals, Cassandra Marie Hershman
Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
Females who are perpetrators of sexual offenses are an understudied population. Due to societies’ failure to recognize that female perpetrators exist and to recognize their abuse when it occurs, sexual abuse completed by females often goes unreported. As a result, females engaging in sexual offenses, particularly pedophilia, is seen as a rare occurrence. However, research suggests that the actual rate of female pedophilic behavior is occurring at a rate three-four times higher than what is actually reported (Cortoni, Babchishin, & Rat, 2017). This study used anonymous data from 2,828 adult females in the IRB approved study [127810-11] Effects of Recalled ...

The Cycle Of Violence And Its Effect On Revictimization, Shelby Stevens
Williams Honors College, Honors Research Projects
This thesis proposes a study that examines the link between child abuse and victimization as an adult in an abusive relationship. In using experience from an internship at a domestic violence shelter combined with a literature review with studies that have analyzed similar concepts, this study is proposed to take place across the state of Ohio. The rates of domestic violence and child abuse will be collected to determine if child abuse makes revictimization more likely later in life.

Body-Worn Cameras And Organizational Stress In Canadian Policing: A Qualitative Study, Chelsea Doiron
Theses and Dissertations (Comprehensive)

To date, the research available on BWCs has focused on the impact BWCs have on police services, investigations, officer and citizen behaviour, and, police officers’ and community members’ attitudes towards BWCs (Lum et al., 2019). The vast majority of this existing research has been quantitative in nature and has been conducted in the United States, where police practices and policies differ from those in Canada. While there have been a number of pilot projects and research evaluations conducted on ...

Infrapolitical Passages: Global Turmoil, Narco-Accumulation, And The Post-Sovereign State [Toc], Gareth Williams
This book proposes to clear a way through some of the dominant political determinations and violent symptoms of contemporary globalization. It does this in in order to make a case for “infrapolitics” as an enactment of intellectual responsibility in the face of a tumultuous world of war and of technological value extraction on a planetary scale. In Infrapolitical Passages81818app手机版下载 the politics of contemporary global capital is a race to the bottom of reason itself, extended in the wake of the subordination of all forms of living to the economized relation between means and ends. It is this relation which, thanks ...

Collaboration And Reflexivity In Wildland Fire Risk Governance In The Western United States, Brett Alan Miller
All Graduate Theses and Dissertations
81818app手机版下载This dissertation presents both quantitative and qualitative analysis on different aspects of wildland fire risk management in the western United States. Each of these chapters is framed by and examines the sociological concept of reflexivity, which describes a process of individual and/or collective reflection. This reflexivity is needed to identify and enact alternative management strategies that contend with the expected increases in the number and severity of wildland fires in the future due to the combined effects of even-aged forest growth after years of timber extraction, a legacy of fire suppression, climate change, and increasing human development in the ...

Increased pulse consumption could improve diet quality. Purpose: The study evaluated low-income men’s use dietary intakes including pulses. Methods: Men aged 25-64 years who utilized food pantry services were eligible. Men completed survey questions on demographics, nutrition assistance programs use, fruit/vegetable/fiber dietary intakes ...

A Nazi Amusement Park: Flakturm Tower Iv And The Rise Of Alt-Right Fetishism In Vacation Venues, Amanda Jayne Cummins
The Macksey Journal
81818app手机版下载This paper contends that the NH Hotel Group’s decision to convert Flakturm Tower IV, a former Nazi military installation in Hamburg, Germany, into a luxury hotel performatively establishes an Alt-Right fetishism. Though NH Hotel Group plans to include a rooftop garden to serve as a “memorial center for victims of the Nazi regime,” this paper argues that even this gesture magnifies the terror. Drawing primarily from Julia Kristeva’s theory of abjection, Dick Hebdige’s theory of style, the project’s surface discourse proclaiming the benefits of restoration and repurposing, is really a gesture of repossession. This repossession emerges ...

Beds For Rent: Economic Motives Of County Jail Expansion 1970 - Present, Anna Duan
The Macksey Journal
For the last four decades, incarceration in the United States has risen in areas where few would expect: rural ex-mining and agricultural counties with low crime rates. In response, a body of literature has emerged revealing a nationwide trend in which declining counties invest in correctional facilities as a last-ditch economic revitalization strategy. However, researchers have focused on state and federal prison construction projects while neglecting the impact of county jails on growing rural incarceration rates. Since the 1970s, hundreds of counties have expanded their jails to house federal inmates. As jails are the first stage of incarceration, policies concerning ...

She became a licensed psychologist and began to explore the changes that adolescents go through as they age. Most of her work revolves around personal growth and healing, as she teaches about “thriving and not surviving.” In this paper, I will focus on the negative effects that religion can have on different individuals and the ways in which these individuals must use ...

Anarcha, Lucy, and Betsy were the first women experimented on under the racist ideology that was produced by scientist stating that black bodies are “super bodies” when it comes to pain. Transgenerational trauma has left the black “painless” bodies of women isolated from proper medical treatment in women ...
